About Typing Speed Test

How fast do you actually type? Not on a good day, not 'about' — measured. This typing speed test streams real common English words at you for 15, 30, or 60 seconds and reports your true words per minute, with accuracy counted honestly: errors subtract from the result instead of hiding in it.

WPM uses the standard measure — five characters equal one word — so your score is comparable to any serious typing tool. Live WPM and accuracy update as you type, and your best result is saved so there is always a number to beat.

How to Play Typing Speed Test

  1. 1Click the text area (or just start typing) — the timer starts on your first keystroke.
  2. 2Type the words as they stream; press space to move to the next word.
  3. 3Mistyped letters are marked in red — backspace fixes the word you're on.
  4. 4Pick your sprint length: 15, 30, or 60 seconds.
  5. 5When time's up you get net WPM, raw WPM, and accuracy — net WPM is your score.

Tips & Strategy

  • Accuracy first, speed second. A 90% run at full tilt scores worse than a clean run slightly slower — errors are subtracted, not forgiven.
  • Keep your eyes on the screen, never the keyboard. If you have to look down, that habit is the single biggest thing capping your speed.
  • Rhythm beats bursts: a steady beat you can hold for the whole sprint outperforms sprint-and-stall typing.
  • Do a couple of 15-second warm-up runs before your 'real' 60-second attempt — cold fingers cost 5–10 WPM.
  • Return your fingers to the home row (ASDF–JKL;) between words; wandering hands are where typos come from.

How is WPM calculated?
By the standard definition: five typed characters (including spaces) count as one word. Raw WPM counts everything you typed; net WPM — your score — subtracts errors. Accuracy is the share of characters typed correctly.
