About 2048

2048 is the addictive sliding-tile puzzle that took the world by storm. On PLAYNESKO you play it free in your browser: slide the numbered tiles around a 4×4 grid, and whenever two tiles with the same number touch, they merge into one that's twice as big. Combine your way up — 2, 4, 8, 16 — all the way to the elusive 2048 tile.

Every move slides every tile and drops a new one onto the board, so space is always running out. The challenge is keeping the board tidy and your biggest tiles tucked away while you build toward 2048 — and once you get there, you can keep going to chase an even higher score.

How to Play 2048

  2. 2When two tiles with the same number collide, they merge into a single tile worth their sum.
  3. 3Every move adds a new 2 or 4 tile to a random empty square.
  4. 4Reach the 2048 tile to win — then choose 'Keep Going' to push for a higher score.
  5. 5The game ends when the board is full and no moves remain.

Tips & Strategy

  • Pick a corner and keep your biggest tile there; build your largest numbers along one edge.
  • Move in just two or three directions and avoid the fourth so your big tile never leaves its corner.
  • Keep tiles in descending order from your corner — it makes chain-merges easy.
  • Don't chase every merge; keep the board open so a bad spawn doesn't trap you.
