About Tic Tac Toe

Tic Tac Toe — noughts and crosses, Xs and Os — is the smallest strategy game there is: nine squares, two players, three in a row wins. PLAYNESKO's version lets you play it two ways: against the computer at three difficulty levels, or head-to-head with a friend on the same screen.

Against the Easy CPU it's a warm-up. Against Impossible it becomes something else — a perfect opponent that never blunders, where the best you can force is a draw. Getting there reliably means actually understanding the game: corners, forks, and why the centre square matters.

How to Play Tic Tac Toe

  1. 1You are X, the computer (or your friend) is O. Tap any empty square to place your mark.
  2. 2Take turns — the first side to line up three in a row, column, or diagonal wins.
  3. 3If all nine squares fill with no line, the round is a draw.
  4. 4Pick your opponent: Easy, Normal, or Impossible CPU — or 2 Players to share the screen.
  5. 5Win rounds to score points; win streaks are worth more, and a draw against Impossible still pays.

Tips & Strategy

  • Open in a corner, not the centre — it gives the opponent more ways to go wrong.
  • If your opponent takes a corner, answer in the centre; if they take the centre, answer in a corner.
  • Build a fork: two lines threatening to complete at once. A fork can't be blocked and wins on the spot.
  • Block first, attack second — before every move, check whether the opponent is one square from a line.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I play Tic Tac Toe against the computer?
Yes — that's the default. Choose Easy, Normal, or Impossible. Impossible plays perfectly and can never be beaten, only drawn; Easy and Normal make human mistakes.
Can two players play on one device?
Yes. Switch to 2 Players mode and take turns on the same screen — it works on a phone passed across the table as well as on desktop.
Is it possible to beat the Impossible difficulty?
No — and that's not a trick. Tic Tac Toe is a solved game: with perfect play from both sides it always ends in a draw. Forcing that draw every time is the real achievement.

How does scoring work?
