TOWER 2000

A cassette tape swings across the screen — click to drop it. Land it dead centre and the stack holds its width; miss, and the overhang is sliced away for good. The tower narrows with every mistake, so how high you get is a record of how clean you were.

About Tower 2000

Tower 2000 is a stacking game built out of cassette tapes. A tape slides back and forth above your stack; you click once to drop it. Land it flush and the tower keeps its full width. Land it short and the part hanging over the edge is sliced off and tumbles away — permanently. The tower you end up with is a physical record of every drop you got wrong.

That single rule is what makes it hard. There is no timer, no enemy and no level to clear — the only thing working against you is the width you have left, and you are the one who spent it. Tapes also speed up as you climb, so the higher you get the less margin you have to correct. Getting past twenty is a genuinely clean run.

How to Play Tower 2000

  1. 1Press Start, or hit Space, to send the first cassette tape sliding across the top of the screen.
  2. 2Click the tower or press Space to drop the tape onto the stack below.
  3. 3Any part of the tape hanging past the edge of the stack is cut off and falls away, narrowing the tower for every drop after it.
  4. 4Land within a few pixels of dead centre for a PERFECT — the stack keeps its width and even claws a little back.
  5. 5Miss the stack entirely, or whittle it down to nothing, and the run ends. Your height is your score.

Tips & Strategy

  • Watch the tape's turnaround at the edges — it pauses there for an instant, which makes the timing far easier to read than in the middle of the sweep.
  • Chain perfects early. The few pixels a perfect gives back are the only way to widen the tower, and they compound over a long run.
  • Don't chase a drop you have already mistimed — a small clean overhang costs you far less than a panicked correction.
  • Pick a fixed reference point on the stack's edge and commit to it, rather than tracking the whole tape.
  • The palette shifts every ten tapes. Use it as a progress marker instead of watching the counter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Tower 2000 free to play?
Yes. It runs free in your browser with no download, no sign-up and no in-app purchases. Open the page and click to play.
How do you control Tower 2000?
One input, nothing else: click the tower or press the Space bar to drop the current tape. There is no movement or aiming to manage — only when you release.
What is a perfect drop?
Landing a tape within about five pixels of the centre of the stack. Nothing is sliced off, the tower keeps its width, and it gains a few pixels back — so perfects are the only way to recover from earlier mistakes.
What counts as a good score in Tower 2000?
Ten is a comfortable run, twenty means you are stringing perfects together, and past thirty the stack is usually too narrow to survive a single mistimed drop.
Are my high scores saved?
Your best height is stored on your device, so it is there next time. Claim a nickname and your top runs also land on the global Tower 2000 leaderboard.
