About Word Guess

Word Guess is PLAYNESKO's free take on the five-letter word puzzle that swept the internet. A secret word is waiting, and you have six tries to find it. Type any five-letter word and the tiles light up: green means a letter is in the right spot, amber means it's in the word but somewhere else, and grey means it isn't in the word at all.

Every guess is a clue. Use the colours to rule letters in and out, narrow down the possibilities, and corner the answer before your six tries run out. Solve it in fewer guesses for a higher score — then hit New Word and do it again, as many times as you like.

How to Play Word Guess

  1. 1Type a five-letter word using your keyboard or the on-screen keys, then press Enter.
  2. 2Green tiles mark letters in the correct position.
  3. 3Amber tiles mark letters that are in the word but in a different spot.
  4. 4Grey tiles mark letters that aren't in the word at all — rule them out.
  5. 5You have six guesses; crack the word in as few as possible for a higher score.

Tips & Strategy

  • Open with a word rich in common vowels and consonants — something like 'arise' or 'stare' — to reveal a lot fast.
  • Don't waste a guess on letters you've already greyed out; build each guess on what you know.
  • Watch for repeated letters — a letter can appear twice, and the colours account for that.
  • When several letters are locked in green, brainstorm which consonants could fill the gaps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Word Guess free to play?
Yes. Word Guess is free on PLAYNESKO — no download, no sign-up, and you can play as many rounds as you like.
How do I play Word Guess?
Guess the hidden five-letter word in six tries. After each guess, green tiles show correct letters in the right spot, amber shows correct letters in the wrong spot, and grey shows letters not in the word.
Is there a limit of one puzzle per day?
No. Unlike the classic daily version, Word Guess on PLAYNESKO gives you a fresh random word every round, so you can keep playing as long as you want.
How is my score calculated?
The fewer guesses you take to find the word, the higher your score. Solving on the first or second try earns the most points.
What do the tile colours mean?
Green means the letter is correct and in the right position, amber means the letter is in the word but elsewhere, and grey means the letter is not in the word.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Word Guess runs entirely in your web browser — Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge.
